BRISBANE, Dec 7 AAP - A former and a serving police officer from central Queensland are among three people who will next month face charges of perverting the course of justice.

They include the former head of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Rockhampton, former Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Richards, ABC Radio reports.

The Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) said the charges related to Operation Capri, an ongoing investigation into relationships between police and convicted criminals.

It includes investigation of instances where police have allegedly paid prisoners for information.

The wide-ranging and complex investigation started in 2005 and is ongoing.

In June last year, the CMC said that "in part, the investigations extend to issues involving the propriety of certain relationships between police officers and convicted criminals."

Richards, along with a serving police officer and another person, will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on January 12.
